No other composer has had such a significant impact on the world of film over the past two decades as Hans Zimmer, winner of an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy, with his exceptional scores for films such as James Bond, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, Inception, and Interstellar.
Born in Germany, Hans Zimmer rose to fame with Rain Man and has since contributed to the success of numerous Hollywood blockbusters by creating emotionally powerful musical experiences, including Mission: Impossible II, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar, and Batman. In 2018, he earned his eleventh Oscar nomination for the score to Christopher Nolan’s film Dunkirk.
Audiences will have the chance to hear fascinating behind-the-scenes stories, such as how Hans Zimmer conveyed a message against apartheid through the lyrics of a song for The Lion King in a local language, while telling Disney it was about butterflies. Zimmer has cited Ennio Morricone as his idol and role model, and the program will also include excerpts from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West. Following Morricone’s example, Zimmer often composes film music before filming begins—an approach that shapes entire productions. For instance, he changed the beginning of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, after which the acclaimed director moved into Zimmer’s studio. Of Jewish heritage, Zimmer is an artist with a strong social conscience—he composed music in honor of the victims of the Aurora theater shooting, and music addressing climate change, all of which will be featured in the program.
The Music of Hans Zimmer and Others is an unforgettable audiovisual concert.
