The Misanthrope

The Misanthrope

The main character, Alceste, believes that life can be founded solely on truth. However, when faced with the reality that social life also requires compromise and adaptation, he decides to withdraw from the world and choose a solitary life. His fate still resonates strongly today, prompting the audience to reflect on their own relationship with truth and society.

Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Molière, is one of the greatest playwrights in world literature. Alongside Racine and Corneille, he is considered a leading figure of the “Golden Age” of 17th-century French drama and theatre. Under the direction of Miloš Lolić, one of Molière’s most essential works comes to life on stage in a fresh new interpretation, bringing together satire, drama, and humour.
