Chopiniana, a romantic plotless ballet, was choreographed by Mikhail Fokine to selected piano works by Frédéric Chopin. Premiered in 1908, Fokine’s piece radiates a poetic vision of bygone times and romantic sylphs. It is one of the first ballets of the white style (ballet blanc), and today it is considered a classic jewel of the early 20th century. The choreography will be staged by Anastasiia Matvienko.
Walpurgis Night, a ballet scene from Gounod’s opera Faust, soon came to life as an independent ballet. Inspired by the German myth of the witches’ sabbath on the Brocken mountain, it depicts a magical night filled with fantasy, dance, and darkness. The choreography is by Leonid Lavrovsky, while Gounod’s music provides a rich and vivid soundscape for this mythical night. The staging of the choreography is entrusted to Denis Matvienko.
