Madame Bovary, a ballet performance by Valentina Turcu, is scheduled at the Croatian National Theatre Split on Friday and Saturday, May 16th and 17th. Tickets for this passionate and tragic ballet imbued with deep emotions are offered by the Split theatre to its loyal audience at a 50% discount as a token of appreciation for their loyalty. Already, more than a month before the end of the 2024/25 season, the number of spectators exceeds that of the same period in the last record-breaking season.
So far, the performances have been attended by nearly 64,000 viewers, and since this season will last significantly longer than the previous one, this number will significantly surpass the best results to date.
"I have long been interested in the hidden spaces in the depths of the human psyche, the complex emotional journeys of these seemingly ordinary people, the psychological motivations of each character, and above all, the pure, strong, vulnerable, and unpredictable atmosphere," said Valentina Turcu, the choreographer and director of Madame Bovary, ahead of the premiere of the performance scheduled at the Croatian National Theatre Split since the Split Summer. The acclaimed and controversial novel by Gustave Flaubert from 1857 found its ideal staging in the passionate and poignant choreographic vision of the inner world of Emma Bovary, to the music of Chopin supplemented by compositions by Philip Glass and other authors chosen by Valentina Turcu.
"We have never seen anything more erotic than the ballet Madame Bovary, in which the prima ballerina Irina Čaban Bilandžić triumphed," noted the critique, particularly highlighting the moving creation by the prima ballerina of the Split Ballet in the title role. Other protagonists in the upcoming performances will include guest Tamas Darai, as well as Danil Podhruško, Sytze Jan Luske, Eva Karpilovska, Leonardo Souza, and other soloists and members of the Ballet of the Croatian National Theatre Split.
The performance on Friday, May 16th, begins at 8 PM, and the one on Saturday, May 17th, at 6 PM.
